Restaurant
The ingredients comprising the food served in the restaurant are all organically grown by the village in its own fields, including fruits and vegetables such as bananas, sweet potatoes, cassavas, celery, coriander, cucumber, papaya, pineapple, and radish. Additionally, the milk and cheese served in the restaurant comes from the town’s own organic dairy farm.
The restaurant’s cheaply priced menu includes both traditional Costa Rican meals and Western dishes. Typical Costa Rican fare includes rice, beans, fried plantains, and the meat of your choice. However, there are many vegetarian options available. The varied menu includes pancakes and spaghetti as well as gallo pinto (rice and beans with seasoning). At night, the restaurant serves drinks of all kinds and many a time music will be put on after dinner so the locals, and of course the tourists, can go for a dance.

Location
El Silencio is part of the Central Pacific region, offering you the chance to enjoy nature in all its diversity. The region is known for its varied landscape, containing both dry and wet rainforests and a beautiful sun-drenched coastline that not only attracts tourists, but also Ticos looking for a weekend break. Despite the increasing tourism in Costa Rica, it is still an ideal place for spotting diverse wildlife, including scarlet macaws, squirrel monkeys, and white- faced monkeys. El Silencio forms part of the “Cuenca del Río Savegre”, an area of 600 km2 renowned for its biodiversity that stretches from the Talamanca cordillera to the Rey beach. The Rio Savegre dominates the landscape, and is one of the most important and strongest rivers in the country. Coopesilencio is located on the low area and its vegetation is characterized by the humidity of the Pacific coast forest. With still relatively few tourists visiting the town it might just be the best place to discover Costa Rica’s culture and beautiful nature.

As well as the volunteer opportunities and getting to know the community, El Silencio can offer hikes through the rainforest, trips to the local waterfalls and rivers, and horse treks through the surrounding area.
The guided tours that El Silencio offers are:
• A Wildlife Rescue Center tour
• A Wildlife Rescue Center and Reforestation tour
• Hiking tour to the waterfalls and through the rainforest
• A tour through the community
• A tour through the African Palm fields
• A tour of the dairy farm
• A tour of the vegetable gardens
• A horse riding tour

A combination of the above is of course also possible. For more questions about reservations and costs please feel free to contact us.

Though El Silencio offers incredible ecotourism opportunities, it is also located in the heart of the Savegre valley region, bursting with flora and fauna. If staying for a longer period of time, make sure to take advantage of the great places surrounding the town and participate in such adventures as white-water rafting or canopy zip-lining.
